Rotary International to honour Mata

KOCHI: Rotary International would honour Mata Amritanandamayi by conferring the 'Rotary International legendary Centenary award' on her for her services to the people, here on Wednesday.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, Dr C M Aboobacker, Rotary District Governor, said they proposed to construct around 20 houses for the tsunami affected people in Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.

The foundation stone for a 'disaster relief centre', on a two-acre land at nearby Palluruthy, will be laid on Wednesday, he said adding the Kochi Corporation had promised the land for the centre, estimated to cost Rs one crore.

KOCHI: Mata Amritanandamayi will be presented the Rotary International Centenary Legendary Award for service, humanity, international understanding and peace by Rotary International District 3200.the Rotary International centenary celebrations being organised by Rotary International District 3200 will be held at International Convention Centre, Maradu, on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Mata Amritanandamayi will bless the rotary centenary service projects and deliver the anugraha prabhashanam at 5.30 p.m. Mayor C M Dinesh Mani will light the traditional lamp to inaugurate the celebrations at 4 p.m. Rotary International district governor C M Aboobacker will present the Rotary International Centenary Legendary Award for service, humanity, international understanding and peace to Mata Amritanandamayi.
District advisor Venugopal C.Govind will present the citation.

[Kerala, India]: Kochi, Feb 23 : Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi was today conferred with 'Rotary International Centenary Legendary Award' for her service to humanity, international understanding and peace.

Speaking after receiving the award here, she said happiness and contenment can prevail in people's lives only if they uphold love, trust and service, based on an understanding of the other person's needs.

She said the almighty is the pure consciousness that dwells in everything. "Understanding this truth, we should learn to love everyone equally".

On the increasing suicide rate in Kerala, a state with high literacy level, she said it was "a matter of concern". A study should be conducted in each village to find out the reason behind people taking such extreme steps and a solution found, she added. PTI
